Production

We began by watching the music video Busted - what i go to school for. This video was appropriate for us as we are accessible to the scenery and props. Also the characters involved in the video allows us to use ourselves and fellow students. We watched it numerous times and made notes on which characters were wearing what costumes, e.g. school uniform and also a list of props which were used within the video, e.g. projector, pencil etc. We then made a safety sheet of possible problems and risks that could arise through out filming. For example when filming 'Matt' barging through the other students, there's a risk of people falling over and being hurt. So therefore we have to decide how we could resolve this. As we started the storyboard we added in where we would need to assess situations in order for them to be safe. We then allocated characters and positions for shooting the video, and decided who would bring which props/costumes in, e.g. red skirt, guitar. We had to then decide who would be allocated as director, camera man etc.

In order to produce our video we hired out a video camera and a tripod from the library. We set the camera and tripod up depending on what scene we were shooting. We mostly kept the camera on the tripod in order to have a steady shot. We followed the same continuity of the original video in order to produce a like for like copy. When filming we filmed many of the same shots so we could choose which shot looked better, and more in proportion with the originial video. When doing takes of the same shot we had to make sure we all stood and looked exactly the same so that each shot would link into the next without mistakes of shirts being undon and hair different etc. We encounted a few problems when filming, for example we struggled to get the lighting the same as we used a big open room, which lightened up the scene, where some scenes we needed a darker lighting. We also struggled when we were filming specific parts of each scene. for example which hand or leg was used and from what direction at what timing etc. However it just meant we had to watch the original video again in order to create it the same.

In order for our busted video to be complete we had to edit it. For this we used the macs provided by the school. We had to chop the filming to the right length and slot each scene in place. As for my AS media work i did a magazine cover, i was completely new to the macs imovie program, so the rest of my group helped me out and showed me how to use it. We also had to download the busted song and fit it into the video, so that the lip syncing was in time with the music. This was probably the hardest part as we had to time each part of the song and watch the original video to make an accurate remake. As this is a preliminary i should have participated more in the editing to enable me to boost my skills for my proper piece of coursework.
